Terms of Use
Last updated: 6 October 2026
These terms govern your use of Ultreya: the website, the app, and every feature we offer pilgrims. By using Ultreya you accept them. We have written them plainly, without needless legalese.
Who we are
Ultreya is an early-stage project, still in development, run by a small private team based in Italy. It is not an incorporated company yet; we are testing the idea and, if it goes ahead, we intend to incorporate and update these terms accordingly.
For anything about these terms or the service, write to us at info@ultreyacamino.com.
Accepting these terms
By creating an account, joining the waiting list, or simply using Ultreya, you accept these terms and our privacy policy, which you will find on the Privacy page. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.
You must be at least 16 to use Ultreya. If you use the service on someone else's behalf, you are the one responsible for following these terms.
What Ultreya offers
Ultreya is a personal tool for planning, following, and remembering a camino. Today it includes:
- Explore caminos: a catalogue of routes with stages, a route map, an elevation profile, distances, and descriptions.
- Accommodation: places to stay (hostels, albergues, refuges, campsites, and similar) shown on the map along the stages.
- GPX download: the route track, whole or stage by stage, to use in the navigation app or device you trust.
- Registering a trip: choose the camino, the dates, and the stages you intend to walk.
- Managing your trip: change dates and stages, mark stages as walked, cancel a trip.
- Backpack: a packing list you can tailor to each trip.
- Profile: a name, a username, a photo, and a short bio, with a public page.
- Group chat: a conversation with the pilgrims walking the same camino on the same dates as you (your “cohort”).
- Waiting list: sign up by email to hear about what is coming.
Your account
- You must be at least 16. Ultreya is not directed at children under 16.
- You can sign up with an email and a password, or with your Google account.
- The details you enter must be true, especially your trip dates: they decide which pilgrims you are put in touch with.
- You are responsible for your password and for what happens from your account. If you suspect unauthorised access, write to us straight away at info@ultreyacamino.com.
- One account per person. Do not create accounts to impersonate anyone.
- You can ask for your account to be deleted at any time from “Profile → Edit profile”. The account is frozen straight away and erased 30 days later, together with your profile, trips, backpack and chat messages; during those 30 days you can cancel the deletion by signing in, and your email address cannot be used to open a new account.
A free service, still changing
Ultreya is free today: we sell nothing, we never ask for payment details, and there are no subscriptions. If we ever introduce paid features, it will be clear before any charge and these terms will be updated.
Ultreya is at an early stage. Features may change, be paused, or be removed; the service may be unavailable for maintenance or faults; and in exceptional cases data may be lost. We do not guarantee that the service is uninterrupted or error-free — if something matters to you, keep your own copy.
Camino data: where it comes from, and what it is not
The routes, stages, elevation profiles, and accommodation shown in Ultreya come from public and third-party sources: OpenStreetMap and its contributors (data under the ODbL licence), Wikipedia (text under CC BY-SA), and the listings published by official camino associations and bodies. We keep the attribution those licences require, including in the GPX files you download.
That data can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. A path may be closed, a track may drift from the real route, a hostel may have changed its hours and prices or shut down. Distances and elevation figures are estimates calculated from the track.
Ultreya is for information and planning. It is not a navigation tool, it does not replace official waymarking, maps, guidebooks, or the instructions of local authorities, and it certifies neither the safety nor the passability of any section.
We have no relationship with the places to stay we show: we do not run them, we do not check them one by one, and we do not broker bookings. Any dealing with a place to stay is between you and them.
Ultreya is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the associations, parks or public bodies that run or promote the caminos it shows. Route names, waymarks, credentials and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify the routes: all rights to the caminos remain with them.
Where we link to a camino's website or credential page, that site is not run by us. Its content, availability and terms are its own, and anything you obtain there, such as a credential, is between you and the people who run it.
Your responsibility on the camino
Walking carries risk, and the decisions on the route remain yours.
- Judge your fitness, your gear, the weather, and your own ability before you set out and every day after.
- Follow official waymarking and the instructions of local authorities: they always take precedence over what you see in Ultreya.
- Check accommodation, opening hours, transport, and closures yourself before relying on them.
- Arrange your own adequate insurance and comply with local laws and rules.
- In an emergency, contact the local rescue services: Ultreya is not an emergency service and cannot come to your aid.
Your content
What you write and upload to Ultreya — chat messages, your name, your bio, your profile photo — stays yours. We claim no ownership of it.
You give us permission, free of charge and limited to running the service, to store and display that content where it belongs: your messages to the other members of your cohort, your public profile to whoever visits your page. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from temporary technical copies in backups.
Upload only content that is yours or that you have the right to share. Remember that your username, display name, photo, and bio are public: visible to anyone who knows your profile page address, even without an Ultreya account. Do not put anything there you would not want public.
Group chat: how to behave
When you register a trip you are assigned to a cohort: the other pilgrims walking your camino in the same period. The chat is there so you can meet, help each other, and walk a little less alone. It is a group conversation between people who do not know each other: everything you write is visible to every member of the cohort.
Good manners, which apply to everyone:
- Treat other pilgrims with respect: no insults, threats, harassment, or content that discriminates on grounds of origin, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
- Do not share sensitive details, yours or anyone else's: phone number, home address, ID documents, bank or payment data, health data, real-time location.
- Do not post other people's information or photos without their consent, and do not carry what others wrote outside the chat.
- No spam, advertising, chain messages, suspicious links, harvesting of contacts, or promotion of paid services.
- No sexual, violent, or illegal content, or anything else unsuited to an open group.
- Do not use the chat for scams, requests for money, or commercial approaches.
- Before meeting anyone from the chat in person, use common sense: busy places, tell someone you trust, and never give in to pressure.
- Write as you would speak to a pilgrim met on the road: calmly, without judgement, remembering there is a person on the other side.
Responsibility for user content, and reporting
Chat messages and other content published by users are written by those users, who are solely responsible for them. Ultreya does not pre-moderate messages, does not verify them, and does not adopt them as its own: we accept no responsibility for what users write, for the opinions expressed, for the information exchanged, or for any harm that may follow. No advice you receive in the chat comes from us.
If someone behaves badly, insults you, makes you uncomfortable, or breaks these rules, tell us: write to info@ultreyacamino.com with the person's username, what happened, the camino and the date, and the text of the messages if you have it. We read every report and reply as soon as we can.
Once we receive a report we may remove the content, suspend or close the account responsible, and in serious cases refer the matter to the competent authorities. You can delete your own messages at any time: they are hidden from every member of the cohort.
If you are in immediate danger, contact the local authorities, not us.
Prohibited uses
You may not:
- use Ultreya for unlawful activity or to infringe anyone else's rights;
- access accounts, trips, or cohorts that are not yours, or attempt to bypass access controls;
- extract data automatically (scraping), overload the service, or circumvent rate limits or anti-bot protections;
- decompile, alter, or reuse parts of the service to build a competing product;
- upload malicious software or content that harms the service or other users' security;
- use the Ultreya name, brand, text, or artwork without our written consent.
Suspension and closure
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, harms other pilgrims, or puts the service at risk — after a warning where possible, immediately in serious cases.
You may close your account whenever you like, with no explanation. We may also stop running Ultreya altogether: if that happens, we will give registered users reasonable notice.
Limitation of liability
Ultreya is provided “as is”, to the extent the law allows. We do not warrant that the service is error-free or always available, nor the accuracy of the route and accommodation data.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for damage arising from: use of, or inability to use, the service; decisions taken on the basis of data or maps shown in Ultreya; accidents or injuries along the camino; the conduct of other users, in the chat or off the platform; dealings with places to stay or other third parties; loss of data or interruptions to the service.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, nor the rights you have as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
We will update these terms as Ultreya changes — particularly as new features arrive or when we incorporate a company — and change the “last updated” date above. For significant changes we will tell registered users by email or inside the app. Continuing to use Ultreya after an update means accepting the new version.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you are a consumer, the rights and the competent court granted by the mandatory rules of your country of residence still stand. Before going to a court, write to us: almost everything is settled by an email.
